Reflections on the first NYC mayoral debate.

Last week some of the kids came over to our place to cheer on the Knicks in the team’s battle with the Indiana Pacers in the East Division NBA finals.
This past Wednesday the kids came over for pizza from Pino’s on 7th and to watch the first New York City mayoral debate.
Our family has its favorite, of course.
We are all about Zohran Mamdani. We have given the campaign money. Some have gone out and canvassed for Zohran. I’ll be phone banking on Monday.
We will be ranking him first in the ranked voting process (we can vote for five).
Nothing in the debate was particularly surprising.
Andrew Cuomo was evasive. Going full Trump, he denied saying things he said and denied doing things he did.
We cheered candidate Michael Blake for pointing out the Cuomo was a public safety hazard for women, girls and grandmothers.
It was also pretty cool that Blake ended the debate speaking to the viewers in his native Jamaican Patois.
I’ve switched out Jessica Ramos for Blake on my list of five.
Yesterday, following the debate, Ramos endorsed Cuomo. Many remember when Ramos was one of those state legislators who called for Cuomo to resign as governor following the #MeToo and nursing home scandals.
We remember. Apparently she forgot.
The candidates were asked where they would travel first after being elected.
In a wave of pandering, most assured New York’s large Jewish community of voters that Israel would be their first destination for travel.
It was kind of gross.
Mamdani assured voters he would stay in New York.
But the moderators would not be satisfied by Momdani’s sensible answer.
They singled Mamdani out, and only Mamdani, for follow up.
Don’t you like Israel? Doesn’t it have a right to exist? Do you have something against the Jewish state.
As has been his way, Mamdani did not run from the question.
He explained that he believes Israel has a right to exist as a democratic state with equal right for all, with no hierarchy of citizenship or rights.
And finally, immediately following the debate, Mamdani was endorsed by Queens Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.
Her endorsement was expected.
And it further unites the progressives in this city.
